Shadow Creek Transitional

Location
Maple Grove
Type
Renovation plus furnishings and decor
The opened-up main level, with a long navy island, gray cabinetry, globe pendants over a plank-top dining table, and a wall of windows

The brief

The homeowners wanted an open-concept main level and a warm, cohesive feel throughout the house, with furnishings and decor that use as much of the existing furniture as possible.

Decisions that shaped it

  • Raising the sunken living room and removing the kitchen wall.
  • Centering the back sliding door.
  • Storage locker cabinets in the entry.

What I love most: All the new lighting, and the fireplace wall that coordinates with the kitchen island.

Before and during

Where the house started, and the work in between.

Before, the kitchen had oak cabinets, floral wallpaper, and a closed-off doorway to the back hall
Before, the eat-in kitchen had an angled oak peninsula, laminate counters, and floral wallpaper on every wall
Before, the entry had a red accent wall, carpeted stairs, and oak spindles and trim
Demolition in the dining room, with the wall to the kitchen opened to the studs
The kitchen gutted, with new lighting rough-in in the ceiling and the wall to the sunroom being reframed
New gray cabinets and a navy island being installed, with the light locations wired in the ceiling
