The brief

The homeowners wanted a timeless home that felt warm and layered, with a mix of modern and traditional elements throughout the interior.

Decisions that shaped it

  • Picture-frame wall moulding in the grand foyer.
  • A paneled fireplace in the great room with a Tudor-inspired stone mantel.
  • Custom cabinetry design throughout the house.

What I love most: The powder bath wallpaper paired with the soft blue millwork, and the arched double doors into the checkerboard-tiled foyer with its floor-to-ceiling wall moulding.

Grand foyer with picture-frame wall moulding, a scalloped pendant, and arched wood front doors
Great room with a vaulted beamed ceiling and a paneled fireplace wall with a Tudor-arched stone mantel
Kitchen with a white oak island seating four, a white range hood with corbels, and a dining area framed by stained wood beams
Powder bath with floral grasscloth wallpaper, a blue-gray furniture-style vanity with an open towel shelf, and a scalloped wood mirror between two sconces
Mudroom with floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, leaf-pattern wallpaper, a white oak built-in bench, and a herringbone floor
Primary bedroom with blue tree mural wallpaper, an arched door, a sculptural petal chandelier, built-in shelves, and two swivel chairs by a wall of windows

During construction

What the finished rooms don't show: the drawings and decisions made while the house was still framing and drywall.
