Birchpond living room with a dark fluted fireplace wall, a white oak mantel, and lit floating shelves above white oak cabinets on either side

The brief

The homeowners wanted a modern home with flat-panel white oak cabinetry, marble and Taj Mahal countertops, and statement tile.

Decisions that shaped it

  • A modern kitchen, with the range centered on the island and full-height glass cabinet doors.
  • Unique bathroom tile designs and layouts.
  • One cohesive color palette for the whole home.

What I love most: The kitchen, with its full-height Taj Mahal backsplash, and the statement tile in the lower-level shower.

Kitchen with rift white oak slab cabinetry, a stone backsplash and island, black drum pendants, and stained ceiling beams
Butler's pantry with green-gray slab cabinetry, brass pulls and faucet, a black stone countertop, and a white picket tile backsplash
Powder bath with charcoal walls, a white oak vanity under a thick stone top, an oval brass mirror, and white cone pendants
Shower with a black-and-white graphic tile wall, a black hex mosaic floor, and matte black fixtures
