Kitchen with white shaker cabinetry to the ceiling, a white range hood with a brass band over a pro range, white subway tile, and a stained wood island with a white quartz top

The brief

The homeowners wanted the house to feel open and bright, with a classic white kitchen, black finishes, a color palette that brings the outside in, and a shiplap fireplace.

Decisions that shaped it

  • Earthy green cabinets for the bar, mudroom, and bathroom.
  • A classic subway tile backsplash.
  • One wood stain, used consistently throughout.
  • The fireplace design.

What I love most: The main-level bathroom, where we repurposed the existing cabinets, painted them dark green, and topped them with honed black granite.

Walk-in pantry behind wood pocket doors with glass panes, with open wood shelving, a white subway tile wall, and a built-in wall oven
Bathroom with green beadboard linen cabinets and a matching vanity with black pulls, white beadboard walls, and a large format tile floor
Living room fireplace with a shiplap surround, stacked stone base, and wood mantel under a vaulted ceiling with a stained beam and a black candle chandelier
Kitchen island in stained wood with a white quartz top, black leather stools, and black lantern pendants
Bathroom with a dark botanical wallpaper, a stained double vanity with a dark stone top, black fixtures, and two framed mirrors with sconces
